Brushing your child’s teeth twice each day with fluoridated toothpaste is an essential first step in cleaning away bacterial deposits from the mouth while also helping to maintain strong tooth enamel. At the same time, you also need to make the effort to thoroughly floss their teeth at least once per day. This simple daily routine helps reduce their chances of suffering from cavities and gum disease.

The American Dental Association also recommends having a dental checkup performed twice each year by a professional dentist. These outpatient appointments include a thorough dental cleaning and polishing treatment to remove tartar and minor dental stains from your child’s teeth. Our dentist will then perform a thorough dental exam to detect any signs of tooth decay or gum disease.

If we have any concerns about the mineral strength of your child’s tooth enamel, we might also recommend administering a simple fluoride treatment. This calls for pouring a small amount of concentrated fluoride gel into special trays that will be placed in their mouth. Your child will need to bite down lightly to hold them in their mouth for few minutes while the fluoride saturates their tooth enamel.

Our dentists might also provide your child with a prescription for fluoride supplements if there are further concerns about the strength of their teeth. This is more likely to be the case if they don’t have ready access to fluoridated municipal water.
